What are beeswax candles?
Between their 12th and 18th day of life, honey bees begin building honeycomb. They produce wax in their wax glands and shape it into the hexagonal cells where they store honey and pollen and raise their brood.
For my beeswax candles, I use 100% pure, unbleached beeswax and a 100% cotton wick. The natural wax has a warm golden color and a subtle, natural scent.
The wax is carefully filtered to remove impurities while preserving the natural character of the beeswax. My beeswax candles contain no artificial fragrances or colorants and no other additives.
Why do beeswax candles have different shades of color?
The natural color of beeswax is influenced, among other things, by the flowers the bees visit. Depending on the wax, the color can range from pale yellow to a richer golden tone.
Do beeswax candles have a scent?
Yes! Pure beeswax has a subtle, natural scent reminiscent of honey and warm honeycomb. The bees and the plants they visit give the wax its own unique scent.
My beeswax candles are made without additives or artificial fragrances. The scent comes naturally from the beeswax itself.
Why does my beeswax candle develop a white coating?
Pure beeswax candles can develop a white coating over time. This is a natural characteristic of pure beeswax and can easily be removed with a cloth.
FAQ - Beeswax Candle Care
How do I care for my beeswax candle?
Always keep the wick trimmed to ½ cm (about ¼ inch). If the flame becomes too high, over 2.5 cm (about 1 inch), the wick needs to be trimmed. A flame that is too high is caused by a wick that is too long. If the wick develops a mushroom-shaped tip, this can be a sign that it has become too long. Extinguish the flame, trim the wick and relight the candle.
The secret of a perfectly burning beeswax candle is proper care of the wick.
How should I extinguish my beeswax candle?
I recommend extinguishing the candle with a candle snuffer. Dip the wick into the liquid wax and straighten it up again immediately. Blowing out your candle causes black smoke, which then settles on the warm glass. If you still get soot on the glass, wipe it off with a damp paper towel. Soot is easier to remove when the glass is still warm.
How long should I burn my beeswax candle?
The first burn is particularly important. The melted wax should reach the edge of the candle on the first burn. This helps prevent tunneling. It can take up to four hours. Only light your candle when you have enough time to enjoy it. If you extinguish the candle too early, a tunnel will form and the overall burn time of the candle will be reduced.
The specified burning time is a guide and varies depending on external conditions. Candles in glasses should not be left burning for more than 4 hours at a time.
Which candle should I light when?
If you extinguish a candle before the liquid wax reaches the edges, a tunnel is created. But don't worry. There is a right candle for the right time. This way, you can choose the right candle for the time you have and get the most out of your beeswax candle.
How much time do you have?
Where should I place my beeswax candle?
Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface. My coasters are perfect for this. Don't touch the candle glass while it's burning. The glasses get very hot!
Never leave burning candles unattended. Keep the candle away from drafts. Wind causes the flame to flicker, causing soot.
How should I clean my candle glass from apidae candles?
Once your beeswax candle has burned down, place the jar on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 80°C and put the glass in the oven for about 15 minutes. Remove the jar from the oven and use a paper towel to remove the remaining liquid wax and the wick base. Careful, it'll be very hot! Never pour wax down the drain. Wax clogs the pipes. If the wick base cannot be easily removed, gently loosen it with a spoon. To remove any glue residue from the wick base, soak the glass in warm, soapy water. Wax residue can be easily removed with cooking oil. Then wash the glass with hot, soapy water.
Don't leave the oven unattended.
