How do I care for my beeswax candle?

Always keep the wick trimmed to 1/2 cm. If the flame gets too high (over 2.5 cm), the wick needs to be trimmed. Too high a flame is caused by a wick that is too long. If the wick becomes mushroom shaped, it means the candle is using up wax faster than the flame can burn it. This happens when the wick is too long. Extinguish the flame, trim the wick and relight the candle. The secret of a perfectly burning beeswax candle is proper care of the wick.

How should I extinguish my beeswax candle?

I recommend extinguishing the candle with a candle snuffer. Dip the wick into the liquid wax and straighten it up again immediately. Blowing out your candle causes black smoke, which then settles on the warm glass. If you still get soot on the glass, wipe it off with a damp paper towel. Soot is easier to remove when the glass is still warm.

How long should I burn my beeswax candle?

The first lighting is the most important because candles have a memory! The candle remembers how far it has burnt towards the edge. Allow your candle to burn at least until the liquid wax has reached the rim. This can take up to four hours. Only light your candle when you have enough time to enjoy it. Extinguishing the candle prematurely will create a tunnel and shorten the overall burning time of the candle.

The specified burning time is a guide and varies depending on external conditions. Candles in glasses should not be left burning for more than 4 hours at a time.

Which candle should I light when?

If you extinguish a candle before the liquid wax reaches the edges, a tunnel is created. But don't worry. There is a right candle for the right time. Follow my guidelines and you won't waste any more precious beeswax!

How much time do you have?

A ten-minute meditation: My birthday candles burn for an hour, but can be blown out after only a few minutes.

Half an hour at the start of the day: My dinner candles burn for 15 hours, but are ideal for the first coffee of the day.

A dinner party: My L or S pillar candles should burn for at least four hours. Tea lights are designed to burn in one go. The beeswax candles in glass and the beeswax candles in ceramic should burn for about 3-4 hours.

All day: My XL beeswax candle needs at least 5-6 hours of burn time but can happily burn all day. Beautiful!

Where should I place my beeswax candle?

Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface. My coasters are perfect for this. Don't touch the candle glass while it's burning. The glasses get very hot!

Never leave burning candles unattended. Keep the candle away from drafts. Wind causes the flame to flicker, causing soot.

Why does my beeswax candle have a white coating?

100% pure beeswax candles are characterized by a white coating that develops over time. This is a quality feature and can easily be removed with a cloth.

How should I clean my candle glass?

Once your beeswax candle has burned down, place the jar on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 80°C and put the glass in the oven for about 15 minutes. Remove the jar from the oven and use a paper towel to remove the remaining liquid wax and the wick base. Careful, it'll be very hot! Never pour wax down the drain. Wax clogs the pipes. If the wick base cannot be easily removed, gently loosen it with a spoon. To remove any glue residue from the wick base, soak the glass in warm, soapy water. Wax residue can be easily removed with cooking oil. Then wash the glass with hot, soapy water.

Don't leave the oven unattended.
